Zenitude #4: Today Is Not The Eternity

(Originally written in 2015.) "Today is not the eternity. We can't jump forward or backward. It's here and now." Direct Leni-ism (from my friend Leni).

In one of my darkest moments earlier this year, after my husband's stroke, Leni sat across from me at Panera Bread and spoke those words to me. And the words sent a vibration of hope through my spirit. She was so right. It eventually led me to my own mantra, "Live in the day."

The worrisome old toads that we become when life takes detours gives us warts and muddies our spirit. But we all do it. We worry. We become caught up in the "what if's" and our humanity surfaces. When life is bright and a bed of roses, so are we. Or we are Nervous Nelly's and we're in constant fear that the other shoe is about to drop. When life is scary and full of heartache, we spiral into ourselves and wish we could rewind or fast forward the moment. At least I know this to be true of myself.

So we can't rewind or fast forward. We have today. And as another friend so eloquently said, "Why think about tomorrow when you haven't finished enjoying today."

Today's Zenitude (let's call it a Leni-tude in honor of my friend Leni.)

"Today is not the eternity. We can't jump forward or backward. It's here and now."
